I Tried Jenna Lyons’ New Fake Lashes

When Jenna Lyons announced that her next project would focus on creating the perfect lashes for everyone, my interest piqued. I — an Asian woman with stubbornly straight eyelashes — have done a lot to achieve the perfect lash look on my own. But false lashes was never something that stuck (no pun intended). My experience with falsies always resulted in what I would call an epic fail. I couldn't get them to stay on, didn't have the patience to work with eyelash glue, or found the overall look too overwhelming for my lifestyle. That changed after I tried Lyon’s LOVESEEN lashes.

At first glance, the synthetic nylon and P.E.T. lashes already look more luxe than its drugstore counterparts. Each style comes in a navy pill-shaped box with a ribbon loop to pull them out of a sleeve. Flip them over, and you have clear directions explaining how to recycle the packaging — this is something I am entirely for and hope to see with other beauty products in the future.

Choosing my lashes started with the LOVESEEN's Find My Lash quiz, which helped narrow down options based on my eye shape and coloring, as well as the type of look I want. Et voila! I have three options before me: Cate, Iris, and Jack — which also happen to be the brand's most popular styles.

For a day of errands, I started with the "Soft + Wispy" Iris. The doll-like lashes enhanced my eye look, leaving me with feminine, doe eyes; if I'm honest, I couldn't stop checking myself out in the mirror. Next up was the Jack ("Soft + Fluffy"), the trio's fullest and most sophisticated set. These are straighter than the others, so they were the most notable in weight. That said, they still looked natural and made me feel like the definition of a saucy minx. Hands down, I'd reserve for date nights or other special occasions. Finally, I wore the Cate — the style I was most excited to wear. This "Soft + Delicate" option — which had alternating lash styles on the strips — may have been the closest to my natural look, just a little longer and perfectly curled. If you want to give your everyday eyelashes an added oomph, I'd recommend these.

If you're new to false lashes, you'll find that applying these beauties takes some practice. The first time, after using a generous amount of DUO Glue (which helped keep them on all day long), I put them on using my fingers and nails, pressing them as close to my lash line. However, I found that tweezers help line them up with the outside corner of my lashes and before working my way in. If you're looking for extra help, LOVESEEN offers a handy tool specifically for lash applications.

LOVESEEN's lashes got me excited to get ready for the day. Without a doubt, I will wear these lashes again. (Pro tip: With proper care like going without mascara, you can wear the brand's lashes up to 10 times.) The application process required too much of my attention to merit a new step in my everyday routine, so I'll keep them for when I want to get dolled up. I'm also quite eager to try styles like the Inez and Noor for edgier looks, just for fun. Jenna Lyons, LOVESEEN might be the first brand of false lashes that I'll finally use (over and over).
